From the Collegiate Theatre London, 10 January 1978. The show was broadcast on the old grey whistle test and features on the BBC DVD but this performance came after the final credits rolled. It may have been shown at a later date but I don’t know. This is from the same show as the fabulous small hours video uploaded by shiveringgoat.

@guinnesstrail …
@guinnesstrail Thought it was a bottle of Black Jack and a spliff? Or it was the first time I saw him….oh, and several times after that too, bless his cotton socks. Unfortunately the spliff became more prominent after a while. I saw him at the Astoria in the early ’90′s where he was taking them from the front of the stage. Still the same old JM, apart from the long incoherent chats between songs. But I do think you’re right…..he always seemed happy on stage! Fuck, I miss him!
@grif04 Yes, he is …
@grif04 Yes, he is playing a C minor curve chord. Have you not played that often?
@captaingoatbeard7 …
@captaingoatbeard7 On the original OGWT broadcast he played May You Never, Small Hours, Certain Surprise, Couldn’t Love You More and Big Muff. These are all available on the John Martyn at the BBC DVD. This one appeared on an old BBC video. I’m not aware of any others from this show.

@PatrickandPlanB I wouldn’t worry too much because there are plenty of talented artists around today. Martyn was wonderful for many reasons, and good guitarists – like J. Page – would doubtless agree with that!
