I have no idea when this building was constructed, but from kclibrary.com:

"This building was occupied by old American Hereford Association from 1919 to 1953.

After the Hereford people moved from the building pictured to new quarters on Hereford Drive, the Ararat Shrine used the building for many years. Today’s occupant is Financial Assurance Inc. The structure is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as "a contributing structure in the West 11th Street historic district."

Fourteenth Street, as it continues east, becomes a vibrant, important thoroughfare all the way down to Fremont (parts of it are called either International or Mission Blvd). Fourteenth Street downtown, however, is a total failure of an urban destination. The building next to the Financial Center building has no retail along the 14th St side (it’s a Walgreens on Broadway), and then the next block is a parking structure. It’s disappointing that more people don’t get to patronize the few shops in this lovely, terra cotta Art Deco building.

How do you start your own personal financial services company. What are the steps that one must do besides acquire the required licenses and eduacation? How do you gain access to the financial products that you must sell?

Since you’ve never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine whether you’ll start a web based business or one with a store front. I’d call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a financial services company and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you’ll concentrate on (your market ) and how you’ll go after them.

You’ll need to register the business with your state controller’s office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.
