Garage sales never go out of style. It’s unlikely that you haven’t been to a few yourselves. If you like the thrill of bargain-hunting and free classifieds, then you probably won’t mind doing the selling for a change. Holding a garage sales doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be experienced in marketing; you just have to be confident.
While there really is no ultimate rule in displaying items, just spend just a few minutes thinking about what you’re selling, dust or clean them, then organize. This will help you sell more stuff at a considerably higher price. When it comes to rules in deciding which stuff to sell, there is none: anything can sell, what is junk to you may be treasure to someone else. Just make sure you won’t regret selling the stuff later on. A good idea is to browse free online classifieds and see what people are currently interested in buying (and selling), and then go by that.
Don’t just put everything out randomly. Ideally, you don’t want people moving things around on their own; you don’t want people left to their own devices making a mess of your system. If you can keep people from rummaging about, in, and underneath your carefully organized displays, you will save yourself many reorganizing headaches later.
Beg, borrow, or ‘steal’ trestle tables so you can display items carefully and in full sight of prospective buyers.
Use old Hills Hoist and coat hangers to display clothes.
Group items by price. Again, check out free online classifieds to see how different items are normally priced according to model, integrity, slightly-used ness, rarity, etc.
When pricing, give yourself some leeway of a few dollars. That way, hagglers will feel they got a bargain.
Display books with their front covers or spines showing for easy recognition.
Divide tables into areas for different price ranges and put signs up letting people know what and where the items are.
The arrangement should make it easier for your customers to find what they need, and what they want. Be sure to put like things together and give people enough space to move around freely.
Let your kids be entrepreneurs too and have them sell their own stuff. Set up a separate table for them. You’ll probably find they will do a lot better than you will.
At the end of the tables, prior to walking out with the goods, have a vigilant cashier who’ll bag the items and take the cash. This will prevent items from being shoplifted.
Finally, post a classified ad about your garage sale so people will know about it. State the opening date, the venue, and a few helpful descriptions about what you’re selling. You can run a classified advertisement on your local paper, and for sheer broadcasting scope, go via the Internet.
And remember to have fun. After all, garage sales are the perfect way/excuse to meet the neighbours and make new friends. Now people know you and you have just ran the biggest free classifieds for yourself.

Having a financial plan is essential. It can help you eliminate your debt, save for the things you truly want and prepare for a comfortable retirement. If you are tired of living from paycheck to paycheck, perhaps it is time to start following a balanced financial plan.
There are three main aspects to financial planning: Budgeting and saving; investing; and retirement and estate planning. You must work on all three in order to have a balanced financial picture.
There is no way around it. No matter how much you dislike the idea, budgeting is one of the main requirements of successfully managing your finances. It isn’t the negative task that many people assume it to be. It isn’t a financial diet and it isn’t something that deprives you of the things you want.
Budgeting simply helps you to see how and where you spend your money. It also can provide you with a guideline on how to spend your money in order to get the things you really want. It can help you to plan your debt elimination and start saving for the future.
When you take the steps to budget, you are laying out the plan for your financial future. You are deciding what you need to save for and how you will do it. With a budget in place you can start a savings plan that will help you to meet your long-term financial goals.
With a budget, you are able to recognize the areas in which you can save money. You have the chance to improve your financial situation month by month.
Too many people assume that investing is something that is out of their reach. However, investing is a vital in preparing for your future. All you have to do is educate yourself and get started. You don’t have to have a lot of money to invest. The key is to start investing and let your money grow over time.
Investing is one of the best ways to prepare for your retirement. If you want to retire comfortably, it is never too early to begin planning. You probably want to enjoy your life during retirement. Without wise planning, you could spend most of your golden years working. Social Security may not be there when you reach retirement age. If it is, it probably won’t be enough to maintain your current lifestyle.
With proper planning, retirement can be something to look forward to. Along with planning for retirement and getting your estate in order, you need to have proper insurance to cover any emergencies that could pop up. Good health insurance and generous life insurance should be top priorities. You should also have property insurance that covers all hazards in your area. If you can afford it, disability insurance is always a good idea.
You can change the way you are living. You can create a financial peace for your family. All it takes is the proper financial planning. Just start with one step today. You will find that it won’t be long until you have everything together.

I am a senior in college and looking for some opinions. I want to be a news anchor on television for local news stations. Do I need to go to Grad school for this? If so, would I just take a masters in Broadcast Journalism?
Any tips, advice, knowledge in how to get into the field would be greatly appreciated.
They’re swamped with applications in this economic meltdown. Your chances of becoming a newsanchor are 1 in a gazillion.
I live in Chicago and I want to know when the weather outside will start to get warmer so I can start working out outside again. I know i can technically do that know, but I haven’t worked out in a while so I’d like to start off on a warm day that’s uninterrupted by snowfall. If anyone has a prediction for when this will be that would be helpful. Thanks!
Since I’m from the suburbs of Chicago, I can help you out here.
The temperatures start to average out much warmer usually by the end of March. Its supposed to be warm on Thursday (50′s, 60′s), but there is a chance of rain. I am predicting that 50′s and 60′s will become more regular in a few weeks. Its what I’m hoping for because I hope to hike from Chicago Union Station to Grant Park, and then to Adler Planetarium. In my opinion, there’s nothing quite like a nice long hike through Chicago.
EDIT: Since warm air advection has been taking place, its been, well, warm! It would be really to see plenty of thunderstorms. It would seem that the long-term warm weather pattern might be starting earlier than normal.
