I am a Sport and Exercise Science graduate (Bsc with Distinction), and I am not enjoying my career in the leisure industry (rubbish pay, ridiculous hours and I am not finding the work either challenging or rewarding).
I would like to change career to work as a Financial Adviser as I am interested in money, investing and financial planning. Does anyone have any experience in this area who can give me some advice on the best way to become a FA and whether this is doable for a 31 year old graduate who currently has no experience in this field. Thanks.
Yes thanks for that hepp t. What happens is you work and study hard in a field where Universities are ’selling’ courses where there is supposedly a ready market for the skills you learn. then you find out the only jobs available involve working with bad conditions and hours for a little more than minimum wage and you have a large debt to boot and you ddidn’t need the degree in the first place.
Unfortunately I am just another graduate without any tangible skills. I am looking for advice on how I can use my brain to make a real career for myself. I hope you never have a career crisis.
Try a bank. They have their own financial advisors and would put you through the exams you need and you would get lots of support and experience.
There is a ladder you would have to climb but it shouldn’t take too long and experience isn’t neccessary, just good people skills and a good brain. Most have websites with job opportunities on, take a look and see what they have got. and don’t dismiss the idea of going in a something else (ie customer sdvisor type role) as once you are in it is easier to change jobs and create your own path.
I used to work at a bank and they tried to get me to become an FA but i had my heart set on being an accountant but they had a great offer to make.

This year (freshman) all of my tuition is getting payed by government financial aid. However, I need money for other things like housing and credit cards. Will a student loan affect next year’s financial aid even if all of the money were spent? What kind of student loan would be better to get, private or federal?
If all your tuition is getting paid then you really don’t need a student loan. Taking out a loan to pay for credit cards is not really a good idea because you just going to have to pay it off later with interest.
If you decide to get one anyways, Federal loans charge a lower interest rate than private loans. I believe it’s 6.54% and is capped at 8%.

I am taking my california driving test in a few days, and the DMV website says that I need proof of financial responsibility. The car that I will be driving is insured under my friends name, but it does not have my name on the insurance. If I bring his proof of insurance for the car does it count as proof of financial responsibility for me? If not, what do I need to do?
You got some silly answers! You can’t get insurance without a license!!!
The car needs to be insured for minimum state liability limits and in good working condition to take the test.
When you purchase a car, you will need insurance in your own name. If you continue to drive this car after you get your license, you will then need a non-owner policy.

I just graduate from college and I want to become a sports agent. I’m having a hard to breaking into the field. Can I get some advice from someone who have an sports agent career?
Firstly, I’m not someone in the sports agent field and I apologize if this isn’t the answer you’re looking for. I’ve just noticed no one has given you an answer in 3 days and wanted to help.
I own a copy of this book, which I find is an excellent resume writing resource, but not only that, it provides excellent insight on how you can change career fields. I highly recommend this to anyone who’s attempting to change fields:
http://www.amazon.com/Resume-Magic-Secrets-Professional-Writer/dp/1563705222
ISBN-10: 1563705222
ISBN-13: 978-1563705229
You should be able to acquire a copy from your local library.
Take Care,
Ken

I, along with most true sports fans have long considered baseball’s homerun record the most hallowed(important) sports record around. Now that all of baseball’s stats have been tainted by steriods (especially Barry Binds and the HR record) what do you think is the most impprtant sports record around?
Most IMPORTANT?
I don’t think any sports record is important.
Which is most IMPRESSIVE? There’s a BIG difference.
The most impressive is the record for MOST record setting career home runs.
When Babe Ruth set the career Home Run Record, it was like 250. When he finished the career record was 714… so basically he hit about 460 record home runs. He was esentially THREE TIMES the home run hitter of anyone that had played the game before him.
In order to match that record, a player would have to hit about 1200 home runs… which will NEVER happen.
Second most impressive? Cy Young’s 511 wins.
Or maybe it’s UCLA’s win streak?
Johnny Van Der Meer’s two consecutive no-hitters? You may not be impressed, but when will ANYBODY throw three in a row and break it?

What are some sports that don’t make you gain muscle too much but help you slim up? Please give me some examples. I know cardio is good, but what would be some others? And is yoga good to get slimmer too?
And is that "step-machine" good for sliming up too?
Running and swimming are both examples of great exercise regimes that do not ‘bulk’ a person up. You could also investigate dancing, and if you don’t think dancing is a ’sport,’ boy are you in for a surprise! Dancing is a great way to exercise while doing something truly enjoyable!
Yoga is never a bad thing. Pilates is also great!

weather
Are parameters like temperature, humidity, wind, rain and snowfall important for boats and ships (large and small ones) that travel on rivers? In which way are the ships or the crew affected, and to what extent is the weather important?
Most weather has limited or no impact. However, fog or haze reduce visibility, slowing things down. Really cold weather freezes the water. That really slows things down! Wind is usually OK, but during a big storm, things slow down. Often, boats go for moorings before a big storm. Ships and crew not really affected by anything less than really cold causing ice. Up north, winter prevents much boat traffic, so major effect there. Snowfall, humidity, rain have little effect, though big rains can cause flood waters that interfere with traffic.
